I have a rule about following rules:
It's that they should be followed.
I'm sure the rule sounds superfluous,
But not as superfluous as the rule:
Rules are made to be broken.
Rules are made because they get broken.
We broke ours on a straight pole,
Attached it with nine inch nails,
Called him the King of the Jews,
And said we would have no ruler.
We feel a slap on the palms is stigmata,
The holes in the ruler our holes.
If you want to know the measure of a man,
Put your finger in the holes in his palms,
Take up your own cross, and follow him.
